Daigoji Temple

Daigo-ji Temple (醍醐寺) is located in the vast precinct of over 2 million tsubo on Mt. Daigo (Mt. Kasatori). It has a long history, founded in 874 by Rigen Daishi Shobo, a disciple of Kukai's disciples. The National Treasure Five-Storied Pagoda was built in the Heian period and has a 1100 year history. It is the oldest wooden structure in Kyoto Prefecture. Bentendo in the precincts is famous for its autumn leaves. From April 2019, it became possible to enter Kami-Daigo, and once you climb the steep mountain path, which is about an hour on foot, There are many temple buildings designated as national treasures and important cultural properties.

It is Sanboin, a national special historic site and place of special scenic beauty. The garden was designed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi himself for cherry blossom viewing in Daigo.
Every year on February 23, the "Godairikison Ninnou-e (五大力尊仁王会) " which is loved by Godairiki is held.

[By Bus] ● It takes about 30 minutes from the Keihan Bus Daigoji Line Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit.
