Kiyamachi Street

Kiyamachi Street

Kiyamachi Street (木屋町通) came to be called “Kiyamachi-dori” because, in the early Edo period, firewood and charcoal came to be carried by “Takasebune Boat” from present-day Osaka City and Fushimi Ward, and where many people lived, lumber wholesalers and lumber merchants began to build warehouses and shops. In spring, the rows of cherry trees and the Takase River(高瀬川) are beautiful and many people visit, making it a famous cherry blossom spot.
