Jakkoin Temple

Jakko-in Temple (寂光院) is said to have been built in 594 to pray for the soul of Prince Shotoku's father, Emperor Yomei. It was originally named Gyokusen-ji Temple, and the first chief priest was Tamateru-hime, who was the Prince's wet nurse. The main hall was rebuilt between 1596 and 1615 under the order of Hideyori Toyotomi, but was destroyed by arson in 2000. The current main hall was rebuilt in 2005. In autumn, the autumn leaves are beautiful and famous for their beauty.

[By Subway & Bus] From Kyoto Station it takes to Subway Karasuma Line, get off ” Kokusai Kaikan Mae” and then transfer to Kyoto Bus No.19. About 15 minutes on foot from “Ohara” bus stop.
