Raigoin Temple

Raigoin Temple (来迎院) is the birthplace of "Uozan Ryu Shomyo". Uozanryu Shomyo is Shomyo chanted with a piece of music attached to the sutra, and is said to have been compiled by Ryonin Shonin(良忍上人)as Tendai Shomyo Uozan-ryu. The main hall houses the principal image of the Fujiwara period, Yakushi Nyorai, Amida Nyorai and Shaka Nyorai, and is designated as an important cultural property. The main hall was repeatedly destroyed by fire and the current building is said to have been rebuilt in 1533. The temple grounds are very quiet and it is like an ancient temple in a mountain village.
