Arashiyama, one of the best sightseeing spots in Kyoto, flourished as a resort area for nobles in the Heian period. The upstream side of Togetsu-kyo Bridge is called the Oi-gawa River (Oigawa) and the downstream side is called the Katsura-gawa River (wig).
