Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market, also known as Kyoto's kitchen, has 130 shops lined up in a 400-meter-long arcade. You'll find long-established shops selling Kyoto's unique foodstuffs and light meals. It is a popular tourist spot, crowded daily with Kyoto residents and tourists alike. Nishiki Market is also connected to the Shinkyogoku Shopping Street and Teramachi Shopping Street, so you can enjoy shopping without worrying about the rain.
If you're looking for foodstuffs from Kyoto as a souvenir, you're sure to find them here. I hope you find your favorite place to food!

Nishiki Market is the place to go for all kinds of Kyoto food. There are plenty of eatery, making it a good spot for sightseeing.

My favorite is the seven-flavored chili pepper called "Maiko-han hihii", Ochanoko Saizai. It's very spicy, but the sansho (Japanese pepper) is very tasty. If you don't like spicy, I recommend the black shichimi.
