Tickets & Fare

Those who come to Kyoto as a tourist will have the opportunity to get in and get off public transportation many times a day.
Each time you buy a ticket, or in the case of the bus, you may feel a little troublesome to pay in cash.

So, we’ve collected information on convenient and affordable tickets for you to get on and off the bus.

① ICOCA Card

As the cashless society has become more and more common in recent years, many people know about it, but the first thing that comes in handy is the IC card. ICOCA cards are mainly used in the Kansai area.
You can purchase the cards at the “Midori-no-Madoguchi” reception in the ICOCA area of West Japan Railway, or at the vending machines with a mark on the front of the card.
A deposit of 2,000 yen per card (500 yen is required to issue the card).
You can recharge the card in advance. You can recharge the card at the vending machines and it eliminates the hassle of paying in cash at the time of fare payment, so it’s convenient for those who are staying in Kyoto for a long period of time. You can use it for shopping and electronic money at ICOCA member stores.
It’s also convenient for shopping at convenience stores.

You can also use your ICOCA card at IC card areas in other prefectures.
You can use the card in the following areas

The convenient and economical one for sightseeing is the one-day pass! Various one-day passes are sold from each transportation.

④ One day ticket for each railway company

This is a one-day ticket for the railway company, but some tickets are for a limited period or are not always available, so I will write about the discount tickets I have used in the past.
Nara Ikaruga One Day Ticket for Kintetsu Railways This ticket is a one day pass that allows you to go to Nara as the name suggests.
Ikaruga is the name of the area of Nara.

Details are below.

●Round-trip ticket from a Kintetsu train station to a free section and a ticket for a free section
●Osaka Namba, Kintetsu Nipponbashi, Osaka Uehonmachi, Tsuruhashi and Kyoto sections. (It can be used at different stations.)
●Nara Kotsu Bus Lines Co., Ltd., within Nara and Ikaruga areas, with unlimited rides allowed for one day.
●Discount benefits available at facilities in the Nara/Ikaruga area

Also, the good thing about this ticket is that it comes with a complimentary ticket!
You can use it at each shrine, temple and facility in Nara area. It would be great if there is even a small discount!
It’s not too much for sightseeing, but the ticket price for each facility.
I didn’t realize it was fun when I was playing, but I spent more money than I expected when I got home! and so on.
I remember that I used this ticket in May 2018 and it was about 1350 yen.
Currently seems to be sold at 1530 yen for adults and 770 yen for children.
The picture on the upper right is a set of 2 tickets, but it is actually a set of 3 tickets, a train one-day ticket, a bus one-day ticket, and a tourist facility discount ticket.
The last time I came back to the station in Kyoto, the station staff asked me, “Don’t you use it anymore?” and I got it back.
I took only two photos for now.
By the way, you can easily go from central Kyoto to Nara by train in less than an hour.
Nara has a relaxing atmosphere and is a quiet place full of nature, so if you like shrines, temples and nature rather than shopping in the city, you can enjoy Nara.
Each railway company sells a variety of one-day passes, so when you come to Kyoto, please enjoy Kyoto and Kansai with a bargain ticket!
