Hosenin Temple

Hosenin Temple

Hosenin Temple (宝泉院) was founded in 1235 as one of the priests' living quarters of Shorinin Temple of Ohara-dera Temple. The officers there found the hallway filled with Mototada Torii, a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu who committed suicide in Fushimi Castle in 1502 1600. There is a bloody ceiling in which the wooden floor is used as the ceiling board to hold a memorial service. There are three gardens, the Bankan-en Garden, the Tsurukame Garden and the Horaku-en Garden, in which the pillars and kamoi of the policemen are viewed as learning. Also known as "frame garden". The 700 year-old five-leaf pine tree is designated as a natural monument of Kyoto City. The entrance fee includes Matcha(Green Tea) and tea sweets, so you can enjoy the garden while drinking tea.
