Seiryoji Temple

Seiryoji Temple is the name of the Sango, "Godaisan", and was established after the death of Minamoto no Toru in 895. It began with the construction of the Amida Hall in Kuan, which was later renamed Seikaji Temple. A life-size statue of Buddha is enshrined in the temple, hence the name Shakado. A few decades later, a monk named Zhou-Nen, who traveled to China's Song Dynasty and made a pilgrimage to Mount Wutai, told a local Buddhist priest that the statue was named after him. After returning to Japan in 987, he made a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha at the order of the Buddha, and after returning to Japan in 987, Atago-yama in Kyoto was turned into a mountain in China. The first attempt was to build a temple to enshrine a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, which was later opposed by Enryakuji Temple. However, Enryakuji later opposed this plan and failed to fulfill his wish, and his apprentice, Shengku, who succeeded him as his successor, built a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. It was founded by (JoSan). . The Saga Dai Nembutsu Kyogen, performed on the Kyogen Street in the precincts, is one of the three major Nembutsu Kyogen plays in Kyoto. It is performed several times a year in spring and autumn.

It is a scene of Saga Dainenbutsu Kyogen(嵯峨大念仏狂言) held several times a year. It is one of the three major nenbutsu kyogen in Kyoto.
